I just returned from the doctor's office. I had him check a tiny, dark mole-like spot
on my back. I was worried about skin cancer. Much to my relief, it turned out to be an
embedded tick. I'm almost sure that I picked it up while beating the streamside brush
in the lower canyon of the Yakima River a few days ago. In all my fishing trips over
the years, this was my first tick encounter. Luckily, most ticks don't carry lyme
disease or Rocky Mountain spotted fever, but it pays to be cautious. Check yourself
carefully after each outing.
