Tis' the season... Found one making it's way toward my head last weekend
after an ATV ride with the family. They tend to head for warm areas such as
arm pits, crotch (if accessible when wearing shorts or possibly fishing
naked :) ) and your head.

I will never forget fishing small streams in Montana as a kid. These were
streams that trailed through open fields not more than 3-4 feet wide. My
buddies Dad said we need to check for ticks when returning to the truck. I
pulled off my jacket and found a couple, however my buddy pulled off his
jacket and was covered (kinda grossed me out).

I had one hitch a ride on me last weekend. Luckily I found it when I
checked myself after I got home and got it off before it bit me. The guy I
was fishing with that day found a tick on himself earlier in the day as
well.

I just returned from the doctor's office. I had him check a tiny, dark
mole-like spot on my back. I was worried about skin cancer. Much to my
relief, it turned out to be an embedded tick. I'm almost sure that I picked
it up while beating the streamside brush in the lower canyon of the Yakima
River a few days ago. In all my fishing trips over the years, this was my
first tick encounter. Luckily, most ticks don't carry lyme disease or Rocky
Mountain spotted fever, but it pays to be cautious. Check yourself carefully
after each outing.
