        In my experience (which is limited), I'd say that the most common
error is not mixing the stuff thoroughly.  When you think the mixture is
thoroughly mixed, keep mixing for a while longer.  It does mean that your
mixture will harden up quickly and not give you a lot of time to apply the
rod finish to your wraps, but you can always mix up a new batch.  It's
better to do that than to apply the finish and find it never completely
hardens up, speaking from personal experience.
