I don't know if this is "scientific" enough. I wouldn't know what to do with a scale sample even if I could get one.

Depends on what water I am fishing. I keep a chronological journal with each date headed by location.

Saltwater: Date, place, low and high slack tide times, time I fished, water flow and direction, light conditions, weather conditions, fish caught, fish missed, flies used and who fished.

Steelhead: Date, river name, location (run or description), water flow cfs, clarity, water temp, weather, method and who fished, fish caught and fish missed on which flies.

Trout Rivers: Date, location, weather, river flow cfs, water clarity, hatch, flies used, who fished.

Trout Stillwater: Date, location, weather, water temp, hatches, fish caught and flies used, who fished.

I'm thinking about keeping a more "scientific" fishing journal and was
wondering what other folks record when they go out fishing?
