Had the day off on Monday and hit the sky. Fished two spots off the ben howard road. Found a slack water pool that had a ton of silvers and chums rolling and jumping. Hooked a couple of chums dead drifting colorful flies on a typ4 sink tip. Never was able to hook into any silvers. Tried stripping, swinging, dead drifting, skating ... no love. One chum spit out my fly after 30 seconds of battle and I spent the next 15 minutes trying to climb up into the tree and get my fly down.
The second spot I found was also a slack water pool that had a bunch of silvers jumping, but I was never able to bring anything to hand. On some exploration I did find probably 100+ chums spawning right next to shore, it was really cool to watch. I dutifully left them alone. So far my experience with chums are that they like the back water slow pools, at least that's where I've caught them. Do they ever hold in the longer fast runs? Or out in the middle of the river? Also any tips on silvers? I know they can be tight lipped and they like to chase things. I tried silver and yellow colors. Didn't have any blues flies ... Had the day off on Monday and hit the sky.
