Well, Jay got me a great gift too, a car rod rack.  This is especially handy for me since I’m the only guy who fishes primarily out of a sport compact car and on the Yakima that means working a clutch in wading boots and always breaking down my fly rod to fit into my trunk when I go from spot to spot, now I can just stick the rod on the car.   I also got a new vest from my wife, my old one was very old and was just killing my neck since it had no net hanger or support built in like most of the new ones do. Since I only wear a vest trout fishing it will probably be a few months before I try it out.

 

I was half-way to the south sound this morning on an errand so I hit the salt which was stupid, it was much windier on the water than at my house which made for tough casting and very cold hands.   I evidently got there too late as some guys leaving said the bite was on right at the tide exchange.  I managed to find one group of fish splashing about and got one on, lost him on a jump, had another hit then two sea-lions moved in and decided they wanted to fish there instead of me.  Needless to say that was the last I saw of that pod of salmon.    I cast around until frozen, thawed with some hot tea and lunch, then cast a bit more until re-frozen then left.

My buddy Tim Harris, who is pretty active on this list, gave me a great present. He put together a rod repair kit for me to take on trips. It's got glue, new guides and tips, thread, wax and tools. A very thoughtful gift from a good friend -- also because I break a lot of rods :-)

Now that the Holidays are over, did you all get what you wanted for ______mas? (have to be politically correct nowadays), or whatever holiday it is that you observe. Me, I got enough money to buy either a nice rod or reel. Haven't decided which to get at this point. Since all seems to be dead on this board lately, maybe a discussion of actual presents, or of ones we are going to purchase would be in order. Has anyone been out and tried out thier new presents?
