Perhaps a good stakeout operation with one of the hunters in this group, might not be a bad idea. Is baiting still legal for bagging truck thieves?

Sorry to hear about your buddy's truck, that is just plain lame. That would certainly put a downer on a good weekend.

Subject: a word of caution at Umtanum

Just finished a great 3 day fishing trip which ended on a sour note at Umtanum.

A friend an I fished Lenore on Friday … very calm winds if any at all  … 25 or so other fisherman at the north end of the lake.

Did fairly well on snow cone chironomids, size 12.  my most productive was a purple size 12.  First time fishing the lake … I will say location within the north end is the key when the fish are congregated like they seem to be.  It seemed that the area on the west side of the north end near the cliffs was the spot to be.  I’m amazed the fish kept biting with all the pressure.  The best explanation I heard for the clustering of fish was that someone had dumped a case of pauzke’s there!  It would be interesting to know what was the topography/geology/microclimate that seemingly clustered the fish in that small area.

We were joined by 2 others Friday night and again fished Lenore on Saturday.  The wind kept most of the crowds away.  But had a fairly productive day again.  There was one young angler who absolutely hammered the fish on a black chironomid he make out of black v-rib with a white bead head … about a size 12 also.

Sunday we decided to try the Yakima.  Put in at Ringer and pulled out at Umtanum.  It was great because we had pontoons and a trailer with 2 rigs so the shuttle problem was solved.

My friend parked his 1997 red F-150 truck with white canopy and new trailer from Costco at Umtanum and the other rig was at Ringer.  Must have left the Trailer at 10:45 or so and we got off the water at 4:00.

Fishing wasn’t great but I did manage one decent 19 inch rainbow.  Unfortunately, when we pulled out, my partners rig, trailer and all were missing (with lots of stuff in it from the weekend).

Kind of a sour end to an otherwise great weekend.   We reported the car stolen and had to fill out some paperwork.  Just a word of caution to all.  The car was locked tight.  But when you leave your rig at a takeout “they” know you won’t be back for a while.

If anyone saw anything at the gravel parking lot at Umtanum that would be helpful to the sheriff … please let him know, it would be great to put a stop to what I hope isn’t a trend.
