I fished Rocky Ford Friday and Sat., there was little pressure and
conditions were good. Fishing was very good. My best fish was a 27" rainbow that
looked like a fresh summer run steelhead. It took me into my backing twice and
jumped several times.
On Friday morning it was hot so I changed to a lightweight pair of
flats pants. As I was walking to the creek I noticed that my billfold didn't fit
all the way down in my hip pocket. I intended to button the flap, but I didn't
think about it again until I noticed I didn't have it 6 hours later. I cover a
lot of ground when fishing so I had a lot of ground to search. I looked
everywhere several times with my wife once and with a friend who came by another
time. By Saturday evening I had accepted I was going to have to replace
everything. The last time I lost a billfold was over 40 years ago as a kid so I
wasn't too happy. Toward evening I hooked a fish in one of my favorite areas and
I had to crawl into the rocks to release it. As I sat there it dawned on me I
had released a fish there the previous day, could this be the spot? I looked
down and back from the very edge of the water and there was my billfold in a
narrow crack, almost invisible. It made my week and persuaded me to be more
careful. I had noticed the missing billfold 10 minutes after I lost it, if only
I had known.
