Actually I do, do you think mineral spirits might work? Is that the same
thing as lacquer thinner?

I've used a little lacquer thinner and don't recall it marring the finish. 
But try it on an inconspicuous area first, but I know that's hard to do on a

flyrod. Do you have a section from a broken rod or one you don't care so 
much about?
