I recently talked a guy through (via a phone hookup) a 7200RPM
IBM Desktar installation into a fanless iMac. 'took me awhile to
sort the case removal (different case design to the fan iMacs I
was used to) - it's been running fine for the last year.
a) Go the 7200rpm. Definitely noticeable.
b) I recently tried some of the new Seagate Barracuda's and found
them to be quieter than the IBM (by quite a bit) and generate about
the same heat.
