That did it, just saved myself 150Mb of space. Even doing that with the old file with nothing deleted still compressed it & reduced to 165Mb from 295Mb - obviously all the messages & stuff I have deleted over the years. Looks open with option key should be done on a regular basis. Many thanks Angus
