I would like to be able to charge my iBook using a solar panel. Does
anyone have some practical answers? Voltage regulation? THAT plug from
the yoyo to the machine?

Or can I plug directly into my 12V system in my car?

Nobody else seems to be answering, so I'll have a crack at it...

I seem to remember seeing a 12V -> 240V adapter in a Dick Smith catalog a little while ago. Perhaps you could use a 12V battery as an intermediate step? That may be a little inefficient, going from 12V to 240V and back to 24V, however I suspect that there'll be a charger from solar to 12V car battery, but precious little in the way of 12V to whatever voltage an iBook uses.

One other thing that you may want to be wary of is that power output from a car is typically fairly 'unclean', ie lots of spikes and surges. It may be worth your while using a line filter as well, if you go down this route.

You could check with Shay - he was part of the sungroper solar-powered car competition that ran recently: <http://www.sungroper.asn.au/>

Hope this helps,

Anthony
