hi everybody! I believe Fosh Australia make and distribute these types of devices - also the American Macworld (when you can get them) often have this sort of thing in them up the back with all the wee ads about peripherals and stuff. There used to be a solar panel that you could attach to your powerbook screen to help make the battery last longer. In combination with a good battery though, any solar panel could do the job for you if you have a 12V to laptop adapter - less elegant though but probably cheaper.
I still have a Fosh car to powerbook adapter I used with my PB165c (both still alive - believe it or not) to do work in the car for a street tree survey a few years ago - NO we didn't get many responses from the trees!!! - we were surveying which species of trees were at which lots for a city council their condition, height and proximity to powerlines. When I am desperate for computing when I'll be away from power for a while I use it and a car battery to get several days computing off a single (very large) battery charge. How long does it last - I don't know it hasn't ever run out on me. I DO have a 5W 12V solar panel we bought for a farm block and use with an inverter we bought from DSE for $120 - a 300W unit that I think was a bargain. It's not fancy but it's cheap. I do want to do something with wind power down on the block as we get good winds that could charge a bank of batteries really well. Anyone know a good source of large 12V car batteries or am I better to use big 6V batteries?
