Referencing http://consumer.usa.canon.com/printers/osx.html (which I
do regularly waiting hopefully for my Canon N1220U (which I
love(d?)!) to be updated) it says all Canon ones are compatible only
in Classic mode (although the 1250s aren't specifically mentioned).

test the scan function in OS X. This ensures that when Canon releases
a new scanner driver, it will meet the expectations of our customers."
