I have just plunged back into OSX and having problems 1. The OS keeps wanting to ring out all the time and I can't stop the damn thing
Do you have the "date and time" preference panel set to use a network time server?
In the "Network" preference panel, choose 'Modem' (or 'Internal Modem') from the 'Show' popup menu. Then click the PPP tab, click the 'PPP options' button and make sure that 'Connect automatically when needed' is turned off.
