After much agonising and believing that the Adaptec SCSI card in my
G4/400 was the problem I chanced, yes really chanced while looking
for something else!, on the freeware SCSI CD-RW Helper at El Gato
software (www.elgato.com).
Now my LaCie CD burner comes up with Toast 5.2 on OSX, a great
improvement on having to reboot into OS9 whenever I wanted to burn a
CD!
May be of use to like sufferers.
