Have accessed apple tech support but only have information on giving
an account root access that I already know how to do anyway.
The "root" account is always there, so all you need to do is make
sure you know the password for it. This you can do by booting from
the original MacOS X install disk and resetting the root password
from there. You can then log back into the computer proper as "root"
with the new password, and fix what needs fixing.
Actually (and I should have included this but...) when I got there
the computer had no accounts listed at login prompt and would not
respond to root/administrator/user names so the first thing I did was
boot from install CD that only showed "administrator" account which I
reset.
Upon reboot would not accept "administrator" with reset password but
would accept "root" with same password (ok no problem but not what I
expected/recalled). Going in to users control panel showed both
"Administrator" and users name so I reset both passwords there.
Rebooted but then would not let me log in as "root" only as the lower
access level "admin" and owner/users accounts. <that seemed strange>
So yes have got that far as that but as I would like departmental
support officer to have a "proper" admin account and the owner/user
to have a normal user account I was just wondering how to make the
"fake" administrator a real admin without making them "root"?
