My guess Neil is that the iMac has already been set to region 4 and
the PowerBook is set to region 1 (the US) as it leaves the factory
like mine.

Subject: Apple DVD Player - Region Codes & DVD compatability with
different versions
A follow up to my previous mystery on different DVD set-ups:
DVD 3 The Wall (Pink Floyd)
DVD 4 The search for Robert Johnson
These two DVDs both play fine on the iMac in either OS9 or OSX (ie set-ups 2
& 3 below).
But in the powerbook both give the following message:
"To play this DVD video disc you need to select a region code for your DVD
drive. Do you want to set the region code for your drive now? Once set, you
can change the region code only 4 more times. You should notchange it unless
you want to change it permanently."
At this point, I cancelled, not wanting to change the region code.
Now I'm confused, the only disc that shows a region code on the case is DVD
1 - which plays fine in all set-ups. It says the region code is 4 (which is
presumably our region in Australia?) So if the drives are set for a
particular region it must be 4.
So why do DVDs 3&4 play in the iMac but ask for a region change in the
powerbook - is this down to the actual drive ie the powerbook is region
sensitive & the iMac is multiregion?
I suppose this problem is different from the previous - the fact that DVD 2
will play in the iMac under OSX but not OS9 would surely have to be down to
software? But would that be Apple DVD player or the drivers for the
superdrive? Anybody else had this problem?
