Hi folks,
Have acquired a Powerbook 14cs/166 using an external modem (Hayes
Accura) on system 8.5. When connecting by PPP get error message '
The connection attempt fails: the port may be used by another
application.......'.
Should Appletalk be on or off...have tried both ways?
Any comment appreciated.

AppleTalk should be off if it's set to use the modem port. You should
also disable any Fax software that might be installed.
