Subject: SkyView WA & Macintosh Users

     Good Afternoon,

Thank you for your eMail regarding LandOnline. On the whole you should
not encounter any problems other than accessing the imagery available
through SkyView WA using a Macintosh at the present. The Image Web
Server used in SkyView WA is propriety software from ER Mapper
(contact 9388-2900 or http://www.ermapper.com/) and is currently only
compatible with IBM PC's and Internet Explorer 5.0 and 5.5 browsers.
ER Mapper do intend to make their software compatible with all
operating systems/browsers but no dates are forthcoming.

It is also important to note that we are not excluding Macintosh
users, the ECW format does not work under UNIX and, I would presume,
Linux or any other operating system either. The reason is that a
plug-in is required to read the ECW image.

Unfortunately for Macintosh, UNIX and Linux users, ER-Mapper decided
to develop their technology on the platform that provides the widest
audience (Microsoft Windows). ER-Mapper are still developing the
technology, they are a small company (WA based), who do not have a lot
     of resources or capital.

It is also worth noting that SkyView WA is not accessible to Netscape
Navigator users. This is because the latest version of Netscape had
so many bugs in it and Netscape would not release the code, that
ER-Mapper didn't have a choice. They simply could not write the
     necessary plug-in.

     In Summary:
SkyView WA is currently only available to customers running IE5 (or
above) on a Windows operating system.
ER-Mapper has released a IWS plug-in for Macintosh users.
DLI, at this stage, cannot guarantee it will work with SkyView WA (due
to incompatibility problems between versions). Therefore, digital
extracts from the mosaic can be ordered from DLI or book a visit to
your local library where Internet access is free. You are also welcome
to view SkyView WA at DLI's Central Map Agency in Midland (8am - 5pm
Monday to Friday). Alternatively if you can supply the coordinates of
the area of interest (current edition of StreetSmart Directory for the
metro area is a good reference) we can supply a quote for the data in
Geo-TIFF format or as a hard copy print.

Please contact myself on the number below if you have any further
     questions.

Regards,
