If you just want an email address, then sign up with WAMUG as a financial member for $30 and get heaps more space, less spam, etc. If you want to take advantage of some of the easy-to-use features that are incorporated in the iLife packages, then maybe consider the .mac account. For example, making a website from an iMovie and some iPhotos really is only a couple of clicks to make something that looks great. Don't have to worry about ftp and other acronyms :-) There is also Backup.....hmmm....for me I'd spend some money on either Retrospect or even Toast 6 and set up a CD/DVD burning system that doesn't rely on an internet connection. Even though Backup does do basic backing up to CD, I prefer the extra features that the other packages have. Apple also have online software offers from time to time, such as games. Might also be worth your while doing a search of the WAMUG archives on this subject. The list actually got a response from Apple Australia in regards to ongoing issues with certain aspects of .mac being only available to US/Canadian Apple users. Best thing to do would be to sign up for the 60 day free trial and have a look. It's no obligation, and you can decide for yourself whether having a .mac account is worth it. Seeya Rod!
