Dudley and muggers

I have found the same, having been connected to cable since last monday arvo. What a HUGE difference. The only thing I did when telstra rang to confirm the booking on the saturday, was to tell them I was using a mac with 10.3 installed. The techie who came out, was reasonably familiar with macs, and the Cable login software works well with ten three. I just need to be able to do the same on my powerbook as I arrived home slightly late to catch the full instal procedure.

Highly recommended

No worries about updating system software now at up to 300kb/sec!!

regards

chris

Thanks to those wamuggers who provided pointers - am now up and running with a Netgear FVS318 Router/Firewall running Panther on a network of 3 macs and 2 ethernet printers.

Whirlpool was not quite up to date as the Netgear routers they recommend are no longer available. But a very helpful bod at Fulton in Sydney www.fulton.net.au/ pointed me to the FVS318 which cost $286 and which also has VPN capabilities thrown in.

But the main thing is that it has the built-in BigPond client and I just connected up, entered my login details and away we went and haven't missed a beat.

It seems to me that a lot of the angst about BigPond cable on macs could be just ancient history. I really couldn't have found it more straightforward.
