Hi there folks,

I have read some talk recently in Australian Mac User and in the Australian
(the Barrow) about the possibility of Mac prices coming down due to the
improvement in our dollar during the past few months.

It seems Apple Australia are being tight lipped about this issue at the
moment. Apparently Macs are about the only import that has not yet had a
price reduction.

I think you'll find there are lots of imports that haven't had price reductions. And in 20 years of Mac, I've only seen the price reduced due to exchange rate changes once or twice, so I wouldn't hold my breath.

As I am thinking of upgrading my iMac 266 in the near future, has anyone
heard any more about this. I would be really "peed orf" if prices fell right
after I made my purchase.

I suspect, that the stock that is in Australia will be sold at the initial import cost plus their markup.

If import costs are reduced ( ie favourable exchange rate) any price reduction will only be with new stock

think about this in a business sense - its silly to sell stuff at a cheaper rate than it cost you to bring it in - buy it- in the first place - thats negative cash flow.

unless there are prepare to sell at a loss so that new machines at a cheaper cost will sell faster and be more profitable than the old stuff.

my 2c rant
