panther finder window

Ive just notice something I can do in Panther
In a finder window grab a file , click and drag it to the finder 
window menu bar  drop it in the grey area
file can be opened by clicking on it and stays there no matter where 
I go in the finder window!

now if I can only drop that file back into a folder?
