Ive just notice something I can do in Panther
In a finder window grab a file , click and drag it to the finder
window menu bar drop it in the grey area
file can be opened by clicking on it and stays there no matter where I
go in the finder window!
now if I can only drop that file back into a folder?
We've been able to do this since MacOS X beta. The only difference in
Panther is that it is not as obvious since the icon area is grey. It is
also possible to drop the file into the panel at the left of any
window, from where it is also always available.
In either case, you are simply creating an alias of the file. You can't
move the alias out of the Icon area, but you can delete it by
control-clicking (or right-clicking if you have two buttons) and
selecting "Remove item". You can move the icon out of the Left Panel,
but as in the Dock, it disappears with a "puff of smoke".
If you want to put the file into another folder you'll have to use the
original file. Don't forget that Panther supports other technologies
which can make it easier to achieve what you want, such as Exposé and
spring loaded folders.
