You can't have two computers hooked up to the same drive using different connections. One reason USB might seem to override Firewire is the usb Mac loads up its drivers before the G4 does for firewire, thus accessing the drive before the G4 does. If you want the drive to appear on both machines, share it via one mac to the other over an ethernet network. Seeya Rod!
