Hi all Wamuggers

On another mailing list I've read discussion about LaCie external HDDs and their recent propensity to failing, all about the same time; a strange coincidence. At least 8 had been killed within a week. Now mine (my school's) appears to have gone toes - or firewire ports - up. So what's the plot? 160Gb of backup data from our recently returned off-lease iBooks suspended in limbo in a stylish aluminium case.

Have any Wamuggers experienced this?

Can they be repaired or data retrieved? Who can do this?
What is a recommended replacement device.

Regards

Reg
PS Who needs all that old stuff anyway, like the kid's great iMovies, my old school plans and digital pics of the last 4 years of school!
