I should have put this on the techtool email
I have disk warrior 3 and there is a patch to update an image to 3.1
but my copy goes so far and then I have an error message and it stops
the image goes onto the desktop okay but I am left wit Disk Warrior
that cannot be used on a G5
any ideas?

Perhaps you mean 3.0.1? The latest version is now 3.0.2
And even if it did update successfully, according to the Alsoft site:

If you already own DiskWarrior 3.0 (your CD is gold and white with
the image of the DiskWarrior shield on it) AND...
...you own a Mac released between August 2003 and March 2004, you
will need to order an updated CD from Alsoft in order to start up
your Mac. These models include Power Mac G5 machines, PowerBook and
iMac models released September 2003 through March 2004, eMac 1 GHz
G4 machines, or the iBook G4. The updated CD includes DiskWarrior
3.0.2 and will start up from Mac OS X 10.3.2 (Panther). Using the
DiskWarrior 3.0.2 CD Update will NOT create a CD that will start up
your Mac.
