When you go through the songs menu have you tried starting from different songs? If you start it on random from the top song every time it will try to access the same file every time and if that file happens to be corrupted it will cause problems for you. When you go through different menus are you able access all the songs available?
eg Artists = All --> Albums --> All

If it's new then it's still under warranty. It sounds to me like you'll need to take it in to be serviced. If you bought it less than 5 days ago then take it straight back to the store and tell them you want it replaced.

Folks,

Seem to have two problems with the new iPod, but not sure if its something simple. I'd appreciate any ideas:

First problem is that I cannot reset. Tried it many times and held select and menu down and toggled the top bit etc.

New 60GB iPod Photo
ITunes 4.7

I put all the music on an external LaCie 80GB drive, but transferred the lot over to another external LaCie 500GB drive with 800 Firewire. This was because I'm using my powerbook which only has one 400 firewire port, so I couldn't sync via firewire with the hard drive attached. Trying to sync with USB 2 was painfully slow. I changed the preferences to the right drive and updated playlists.

Synced 14,000 songs in and can see that over 33GB has been used which ties in with the amount shown in iTunes.

Although a bit clunky and disc noisy, everything seems to work OK, such as going from music menu through to playlists, albums, artists etc. However, the one that I need and use all the time is via SONGS. I normally just leave shuffle on and that's it.

This iPod though, goes through to the SONGS list, which I can scroll up or down, but when I click to play, it won't play at all, sort of freezes for a few seconds, then reverts back up the menu to Music.

I've tried clean restores twice and synced again. Same problem.

I've now just flashed up the G4 tower and synced from my other iTunes, which cleared out the powerbook library and installed the other - same problem just on SONGS. So, to me, this seems it's the iPod, not the computers or libraries.

Ever come across this before?

Thanks in advance,

Matt.
