Ruben,
Thanks for your response.
The songs aren't corrupted. I've played around with it further and have
a strange feeling that the iPod is actually struggling with the volume,
which is worrying as its only just over half full and I have a lot more
to put into it. Its nowhere near as smooth an operation as my 30GB 3rd
Gen iPod with 11,000 songs on.
Basically, any tracks already in a playlist are fine, I can go to the
playlist/albums etc and play a song. But I want to go to the full
'Library listing of songs and just shuffle everything. When I press a
song in that list it struggles, then reverts back up the Menu. So, I
thought I'll create a playlist and put everything in it: at first it
had the same problem, but then it took a while, maybe 7-10 seconds then
clicked over to the song. From there, I was able to leave it on, no
problem, playing through the 14,000 tracks. However, a 60GB should not
be struggling to deal with 33GB of songs. That's if it is the problem.
So I seem to have solved the issue for me, but not the underlying
problem. And the fact that I am unable to reset is still a worry. The
click wheel also seems a bit clunky and when I use it to forward to the
next track, I hear like a needle-drop on a record at the start.
I'll take it somewhere to get a second opinion, then will probably have
to send it back and wait weeks.
Technology, when its good its very very good, but when its bad.......
Cheers, Matt.

When you go through the songs menu have you tried starting from
different songs? If you start it on random from the top song every
time it will try to access the same file every time and if that file
happens to be corrupted it will cause problems for you.
When you go through different menus are you able access all the songs
available?
eg Artists = All --> Albums --> All
If it's new then it's still under warranty. It sounds to me like
you'll need to take it in to be serviced. If you bought it less than
5 days ago then take it straight back to the store and tell them you
want it replaced.
