powerbook restore

My Eldest daughter has returned the G3 powerbook since she upgraded and 
I am checking it out with a view to giving it to my youngest.

Problems I have noticed
1 screen is faded towards the edges - is this terminal? expensive? will 
it last long like this, as it's not bad?
2 Battery is dead - expensive?
3 Not much memory - expensive?
