Hi all
I was wondering if some facts about the iiNet DSLAM plan are common
knowledge.
I signed up for one of their new plans and took the iiPhone option to
get DSLAM as well. Maylands is my exchange and it is indicated as "Now
Active" on their DSLAM information page. Due diligence complete (I
thought).
I applied and moved up to 1500 (pretty nice speed bump - although I
have never seen greater than 1000kbits - as a general rule, should I
expect more?).
iiPhone took a little longer, but it finally went active. Preparing to
be blown away by 8000kbits ... I wasn't. I waited a few extra days and
finally decided to ask why. The response took a few days and it was
disappointing - "Unfortunately your exchange does not have the iiDSLAM
infrastructure so you will receive the 1.5mb speeds which is the
maximum provided by Telstra."
So I called and it was confirmed that whilst my exchange does have the
infrastructure, it either does not have enough "ports" or, "the
infrastructure may be on the other side of the room".
iiNet invites you to "Apply now to see if you are on a DSLAM!" I
thought that was a funny way of putting it.
They left the door open by suggesting that they could talk to the DSLAM
team to see if there was any way of getting me a 'port'. This may or
may not involve applying for a whole new service.
Has anyone else had this problem with iiNet? If so, were you
successful in getting hooked up to DSLAM?
Thanks in advance.
