James,

Thanks for the heads-up already booted no cure, but the manual restart seems to have done something.

Errors with /var/spool/cups

Corrupted Folder? We have printers!

Error still, can see the printers but a print error whilst printing?

I have seen the light somehow whilst reinstalling the driver we ended up with /var/spool/cup instead of /var/spool/cups. I don't suppose you would happen to have how os x sets this folders attributes currently 755 root wheel?

The Fault in the end was a corrupted /var/spool/cups folder, one of those mysteries like iCal now you see it now you don't! Second error human namely mine, yep!

Anybody seen this before is it possible cups has not started,

You are correct, it sounds as though CUPS has closed down. This seems
a bit peculiar and confusing, although there is probably a diagnostic
message recorded somewhere. Have you tried the simple approach: have
you rebooted? CUPS should be started fresh as part of the boot process.
(Alternatively, you can just run /usr/sbin/cupsd from the root
command-line.)
