In this case, Roger, Tara is new to Macs. She wanted to see and feel what she was was getting for her money, and to talk to a human about it. This is not possible at the Apple Store.

Its not easy for a non Mac person to shop around for Macs in Perth and not all their web sites are helpful, some are not up to date or easy to navigate. This is on the front page of a Perth Apple retailer's web site - it needs no comment: 'This web site is currently under construction, but please feel free to browse around what we have so far ...'

Anyway, still waiting ...

As far as your friend buying a Powerbook, she is suffering the same problem as everyone else worldwide. Powerbooks are in a shortage everywhere, and there is a long wait. I hope that will change in the next month, as August/September is the US school buying months, which sucks supply of everything!

And Macs aren't the only commodity in short supply. Cars, houses etc are all bad. Most economists put this to China suddenly finding its Middle Class and chewing up the world's raw resources. For example, the Holden Monaro has a 6 *month* wait. And that's just a Holden!

As for poor service.......well, unfortunately that can't be blamed on anything other than the store. That is one reason why Apple opened their US stores - homogenise sales and service to be the same everywhere (the McDonald's principle).

Rod!

PS I hope she doesn't switch back!
