I've seen enough of them die to think it's well and truly worth it, yes.
Laptops get lots of wear and tear - it's not just dying, but various
minor faults that are annoying but not fatal. Laptop hard disks also
have a rough time of it and may die; being able to have them replaced
under warranty if they do is nice.

Apple's built-in tools to do it over FireWire, probably.
