Morning,
ISP providers will usually reneg on Mac support at some point as an
area of least use, and we do not have facilities to quantify
problems. So, easiest solution is to offer no support and that way we
cannot get persecuted for breach of contract later.
An ADSL connection is usually taken care of by the modem, so all you
have to do is connect to the modem. But, saying that remember it is
an open door, make sure you have the firewall initiated on modem and
preferably a specific gateway, firewall and/or router between modem
and your machines which again has firewall initiated, standard issue
on OS X.
The connection to modem or gateway firewall router is usually an
ethernet connection or wireless. Do not be pit off by the lack of
support as with TCP/IP, PC or MAC have same connection and the MAC is
generally a lot easier to problem solve than the PC thanks to UNIX/
LINUX technologies and OS X ease of use.

These are the numbers you will need to add to your System
Preferences / Network config and the modem is supplied by Optusnet
should be set to get you started and once you have the concept sorted
comeback and re-install and change configs for your modem and network
from default. A very simple but necessary operation to just make sure
everything is secure as you can make it.
Firewall is a specific machine or software that opens and closes
ports to allow data that is controlled through that port access or
not. ADSL is an open network connection to your provider that could
be compromised.

Hi Everyone
Have any of you managed to connect your Mac to Optusnet ADSL
Broadband ?
I have used Optusnet Dial-up for some years and found the service
good.
Recently I decided my phone bill was getting too high and I
investigated the possibility of changing my internet access to
Optusnet Broadband.
I was surprised to learn that Optusnet does not support Macintosh.
The modem they supply (D-Link DSL-302G) is compatible with both
Macs & PCs but the CD supplied by Optus with the modem contains
only the Manual & PC Driver, They do not send the Mac driver
which is included if you don't buy the modem through Optus..
On the other hand, the D-Link web site indicates that if the
ethernet port is used, no driver is needed for Macs.
I am a novice in this broadband business and am somewhat confused.
I know I can change ISPs but I have been quite happy with Optus and
don't especially want to change my email address.
Or, is there a fix ?
Thank you for any advice
