Hi Brian,

I cannot see where a good UPS would present any danger to your usage. The
advantage of such devices is to provide you with clean main voltage, ie with
damaging spikes filtered out and a constant voltage to your power supply.

The other advantage is to provide you with enough power to properly close
your computer in case of a mains power black-out or outage. However this
second advantage is probably of no use when using a lap-top as your internal
battery would provide you with the necessary back-up power.

I have used such a device ever since I purchased my Performa 5400 and the
newer G5 without any problems. In fact this has saved me a few times when
the mains blacked-out whilst working on the computer.

I do not know anything about the ethernet filter unfortunately, hence cannot
comment.

Regards,

Philippe
