I'd be filtering the incoming ADSL/phone line in preference to the ethernet line. You're much more likely to have damaging spikes coming down the phone line during a storm than a spike from the (small) ethernet in your house. Not impossible, but I'd put my effort into protecting against problems on the phone line first.
