Hi,

I have been conned into upgrading a family member's OS from 9.2 to Panther.

Her machine is the last of the dual boots - iMac G3 500Mhz, 256 RAM. Carbon
lib
1.5 and ROM 8.3.1.

Is there anything I need to be aware of? Any firmware updates or just little
tricks that anyone would like to pass on?

Any help would be greatly apreciated. I have put this off for over a year
and have finally run out of road to hide on.

Yes. ABSOLUTELY check the firmware version. You'll have to download and run the Firmware 4.1.9 updater from Apple's website. It will install if needed, otherwise it will tell you that the firmware is up to date.

THE IMPORTANCE OF THIS CANNOT BE STRESSED ENOUGH. Installing Panther on certain iMacs of this vintage without first updating the firmware can damage the computer.
