Initially from fresh reboot of computer, it is slow at start-up due
to X11. But, once loaded for the first time it actually outpaces
Office even on a restart of program. Solution I utilise at community
group I admin is to place it in the users start-up folder so it is
ready to be utilised ASAP.
It has been released as a full version since 21Jun05 not release
candidates as in past.
Other alternative is AbiWord.
AppleWorks lives in Tiger very well, TextEdit is also very stable and
usable with Tiger for word processing, the most under-utilised
default installed program on the Mac.
