Seriously think about a Sony Ericsson. They have nice screens, a brilliant
interface and sync perfectly with a Powerbook over Bluetooth.
Possible solutions include:
Z800i or K608i on 3. Both are ~$15/mo + plan ($29, $49, etc cap)
K750i on Optus. $15/mo + $49/mo cap
K700i on Vodafone: $299 outright or monthly payments + $49/$79/$129 cap
I wouldn't even bother with Telstra.
I've personally got a Z800i on 3's Bonus Plan 55. I like it although
sometimes I feel I could be better served with a $29 cap, $15/mo payments
and a 100MB broadband cap but I chose the bonus plan at the time because the
phone repayments were too expensive at the time.
As a bonus, the Z800i can act as a bluetooth modem so when combined with 3's
broadband cap you can get 100MB of mobile data for your Powerbook for $29/mo
