Thanks Rob for that innovative approach. I thought hard before deciding against it. While I do have a Pentium 3 (not as a doorstop, but for rare bouts of Warlords III), I have a mental set against using it for anything serious. :-/

If there is no Apple or Telstra solution in a month or so, I'll probably buy the router even if it galls me to the bone.

Incidentally, the NT1 Plus II drivers were supplied with the hardware, but they were paid for and installed by me nevertheless.

Cheers,
Vlad

do as Rod Jurich did (WAMUG 28 July) and buy a $200 router.

There are other alternatives like utilising old Intel PC box that is
most probably holding door open and install IPcop, works a treat with
Telstra NT1 PlusII and the newer Argent. It also does a neat little
trick with ISDN that is called DOV if you are paying for every second
you are a online then look into IPcop. I have a NetJet card if
interested to try.

Comes with a GUI that is run from a browser, IPcop is a firewall,
gateway, router and then some. Totally free just supply hardware, and
no it does not utilise old Apple hardware.
