Hi,

In July I installed the new version of MYOB Account Edge (v5), and at the time I was curious that the installer did not prompt for an administrator password before installation, despite installing directly into the root applications folder. Forgot about it until I installed the 5.0.1 update which also blithely installed the update without prompting for an administrator password like every other updater I've used in recent times.

Now this seems to be very strange behaviour for OS X, while it was normal in OS 9 days. I thought the rigid enforcement of users was part of the security of OS X to stop nasties from sneaking in under the user's nose. While MYOB AE only loosely adheres to the user interface conventions, and in certain areas ignores the Mac UI entirely, I thought that the OS itself was the enforcer for security.

Does anyone know if MYOB is circumventing security somehow, or am I just becoming paranoid?

Regards,
John
