Hi everyone

Firstly, some friends are thinking of switching.
They are looking to get a mac after their pc gave them yet another scare recently.

I'd like to get them a Mac that will run OSX 'comfortably' to 'good' as they don't have much of a budget. Their Win 2000 PC is an Athlon 1100 mhz, 256 MB RAM, low end ATI graphics with an awful monitor. It goes quick enough for their needs, so most Macs would replace it adequately I'd say.

If it is an iMac, it _must_ write Disks.
An earlyish G3 tower is ok too as I can upgrade it for them if it suits. 400mhz would be nice.

I don't think they'll spend much more than $350 as they finally went onto broadband today :)

Hopefully someone has a nice Mac for them out there as I've been pestering them to get a Mac for years ;)

Secondly(more switching business), another friend has an iMac with a 'dead' display.
Apparently the light is on and he hears the hardware booting up.
If I recall its sometimes a logic board or a power supply issue, not too sure, it's not my bag really;)

It is a 'bluey-green' model.
Most folk seem to say 'chuck it, it isn't worth fixing as it is too expensive'. Does anyone know if there is someone out there actually quoting and fixing these?

I'd really like to get him back on his Mac as he is using a pc now, which I had to help him with!

Thanks
Paul
