Hi Greg & James,

I tried the laptop with all external devices disconnected with no luck.
Finally did what Greg suggested - booted the iBook in target disk mode and
ran DiskWarrior successfully.

Many thanks for the help guys. And yes Greg, I'll report this problem to
Alsoft. I'm sure they will come up with a good solution. I've been using
their products since first hearing of DW from Peter H many years ago, and am
impressed by their utilities.

As a matter of interest, whilst I had the iBook in target mode I scanned the
whole hard disc with the copy of Virex 7.5 I have on the G5. Virex found a
trojan as follows:

avapi/v1.0/jar/javainstaller.jar-3cc46f89-69488aeb.zip/INSTALLERAPPLET.CLASS
Found the Generic Downloader.v trojan!

McAffee¹s site had very little to say about this trojan except that it is
not of great importance. This is my first virus/trojan on our Macs for many
years. For some reasons Virex reported not being able to remove the trojan,
and there was no instructions on McAffee¹s site on how to remove it
manually. I eventually removed the whole Œjavainstaller.jar-3cc46f89
............. Œ, and so far this did not seem to have broken anything
fingers crossed!

My thanks again for the replies and help.

Regards,

Philippe
