I went through this process myself. Kept getting exactly the same
message. Eventually my head cleared and I just went off to <http://
www.apple.com/itunes/download/> and downloaded it from there. Worked
perfectly.
I have read reports on MacFixit and elsewhere of people having
similar problems. There must be some bad copies on the Update
servers, I guess.
