You still don't say what slide show you mean so I assume it's iPhoto
5. In iPhoto 5, slideshows are created and saved as individual
entities, each with their own settings. You are correct in that there
is no way to change the default settings for a new slideshow. You
can, however, add and delete photos to an existing slideshow. You can
also right-click (control-click) on an existing slide show and choose
"duplicate" from the popup menu. The duplicated slideshow retains the
same settings as the original, and you can then rename it and replace
the photos with different ones.
