Open your finder preferences (from the finder menu at the top of the screen). Click the general tab & tick the box that says show hard disk on the desktop. Then click on the sidebar tab and tick the box to show the hard drive icon in the sidebar. If that doesn't work the you've done something REALLY weird. Rob
