You're just having a laugh, right? Though I haven't used Google Maps or Google Earth (nor read an FAQ), I get the impression that the images comes from a variety of pre-existing satellites. The images can be years out of date and of poor resolution, if that's all the satellites' owners have available for public consumption. I assume Google just aggregates other people's data hasn't itself launched a trillion dollars' worth of satellites into space just to be able to focus on the hairs on the back of your neck in real time.
