Dear WAMUGgers
I've got a little problem with my G4 PowerBook 15".
It has lost its *!*.
This may sound a little funny but it's true. The *!* that I'm using
for this email has been copied from a document and saved as a
TextEdit document entitled !doc, just for these situations!
Whenever I key shift + 1 to get the ! I get an Apple sound alert and
nothing else.
I can key in the 1, ¡, ⁄ (WAMUG list won't allow Rich Text to show
this character - opt+shift+1) , but NOT the !
Lorelei at AppleCentre Joondalup suggested switching keyboards. That
I have done with no change, so it doesn't seem like a faulty keyboard.
She suggested it might be a keyboard shortcut/modifier in System
Preferences/Keyboard and Mouse/Shortcuts. I've never set any up but
went there anyway and reset them all to Default.
No change.
This is happening in all programs that I've tried, first noticed in
Mail; also in Word, TextEdit, AppleWorks, Command+Find.
I've recently upgraded to 10.4.6 and thought that might have been a
problem so I've reinstalled the Combo update and Verified
Permissions. No change.
I've also been playing around with Mail Fixer because I dislike the
tool bar icons in the latest renditions of Mail. I've disabled Mail
Fixer but still no change.
Have you any idea what the problem is? Your help would be appreciated.
Hopefully it's software based.
Regards
Reg
